“The Red Bull Air Race is going on now! Let’s go see if the rooftop door is open!” I was awoken to the exclamations of my friend Alex on a beautiful spring Saturday in San Diego. Still cloudy-headed from the night before, a few of us clamored up at least 7 flights of stairs to the restricted rooftop access door of his ultra-chic, downtown high rise apartment building. By some miracle of the gods, it was unlocked.
The next moment was unforgettable. A few friends and I on a top-secret helipad, with an unparalleled panoramic view of the San Diego skyline: including Petco Park, Coronado Bridge, Embarcadero, and on top of it all… aerobatic planes zipping around the bay through an epicly dangerous slalom course. Did I mention I had my drone with me?
